Driving external traffic to your website

traffic-jamBack in Bleat#4 when I wrote ‘SEO with keywords for website copywriting’ I mentioned driving external traffic with backlinking, the use of conversation calendars, regular blogging, Adwords, online display ads, and integrating your offline marketing with your online activity to really make the most of 2012 before we all end up as dust.

And today I’m going to elaborate on that. It’s about getting your target audience to your front door, your website. Then once they’re in you lock the door and drive them further to the ultimate conversion. But internal traffic is something I’ll talk more about in a Bleat on a computer screen near you, very soon. For now …

Backlinking

A backlink is basically an incoming link from another website. Google uses backlinks in their page ranking algorithm to increase your website’s visibility. To put it simply, the more your website’s URLs appear around the world-famous interweb, the better. In fact, the latest research shows that close to 50% of any given website’s optimum traffic comes from backlinking. You can backlink by registering your site with appropriate online directories, swapping links with your compatriots (you like me and I’ll like you and so on), or syndicating your blog posts with the likes of reddit and digg. Just ask Ed for more deets.

When it comes to engaging in social media to drive traffic to your website you really should develop a conversation calendar to outline and schedule your activity. A conversation calendar tells you what to post and when to post to keep you regular. Just like morning constitutionals, porridge, and brushing your teeth. Ed can help you, it’d be my pleasure.

Blogging

If you Google ‘what is a blog’ you’ll most likely get something like, “a blog is an online post containing a writer’s or a group of writers’ own experiences, observations, and opinions … often having images and links to other websites.” There are millions of blogs out there covering everything under the sun. Many of which are utter shite. When writing a blog to drive traffic to your website to convert visitors to buy into your products and services, make sure your blogging is relevant, interesting, and most of all, tells your target audience only what they need to know. Just like I do.

AdWords

Google AdWords is Google’s main advertising product and main source of revenue. Google’s total advertising revenues were much more than USD$756 gizillion in 2011 (a lie). AdWords offers cost-per-click (CPC) and site-targeted advertising for text, banner, and rich-media ads. AdWords text ads are short, consisting of one headline of 25 characters and two additional text lines consisting of 35 characters each. Adwords, in my mind, is pretty much mandatory for any website. Just ask Ed to find know how to do it well.

Online display ads are everywhere! Click here to earn a living while having sex, reply now for a free luxury yacht. Online display advertising comes in a variety of forms: plain text, still images, animated gifs, or video. If your website needs unashamed attention and you have the goods to support it, display ads are the go. And you guessed it, Ed can do this for you too.

So there ya have it. Did I miss anything, who’s paying attention then? Love you all so much and make sure you swing by my new abode at postcode 4112 very soon. Ciao.
